This weekend the trades did not blow. The sea breezes kicked in late afternoon on Saturday and the Parasailers had lift off. I was driving by with the sunset behind me, and there were three of them flying over the road right in front of me (in the reverse sunset) .. So, of course, I pulled over at the popular stop just ahead, at the top of the cliffs and then had them flying right over my head.. I think my camera attracted them, as one of them kept flying over too close to fill my frame using my 100-400mm lens.. Finally he moved off a little further away and played around through the trees and over the ocean and I captured these –

Swallowtail Butterfly on a Getropa blossom

This gorgeous Swallowtail Butterfly just turned up and flew around the Getropa flowers, feeding on the nectar it provided. It was obviously getting a lot of breakfast because it was still there after I had rushed off to grab my camera.

Taken with a Canon 7D and 100-400mm lens.. No photoshopping applied here.. SOOTC (straight out of the camera)…

My visit to London on Day 6 of the 2012 London Olympics became a once in a lifetime experience –  Team GB won Gold in the Men’s sprint today right in front of my eyes  in the Velodrome  on the most beautiful cycle track, they had also broken the world record TWICE on their way to that wonderful victory.  Sir Chris Hoy earned his fifth gold medal, alongside Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny.

The cheering is still ringing in my ears.

My day began early, by watching watching Helen Glover and Heather Stanning’s interview for Radio one by Chris Evans right after their GOLD win for GB in the Rowing – womans pair. Then later I saw Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott being interviewed for their GOLD medal win in the Men’s Canoe doubles. Then I went on to watch Hockey – USA v AUS  – AUS won 1-0…  and then out front of the Velodrome,  while asking a couple of Olympic Stewards if they knew where I could buy a ticket to watch the cycling inside, I was tapped on the shoulderby a stranger,  and was gifted a ticket that was going spare. How lucky was I ???  Thank Q so much Mr Mystery Man…  where ever you are… It made an already great day an absolutely unbelievable and unforgettable one… !!!

I saw Three Gold medal winning teams in one fantastic day, it was a goldmine of photograpic opportunities.

2012 Olympic Torch came to Godalming

Godalming was the first town in the UK to have electric street lighting, and today a flame came right through the center of town on its way to the 2012 London Olympics. The whole town  seemed to be lining the street eagerly waiting for the torch bearer to come into view.

There is a new enclosure at the WWT centre (Wildlife and Wetlands Trust) in Barnes in London for Asian Otters. It has just been populated with four gorgeous 10month old, fully grown sisters. Asian Otters are the smallest otters in the world. They certainly have settled in nicely and are very entertaining to watch before feeding times, as they are then very active and curious and provide some fabulous photo opportunities.

During my visit they were fed with lots of tiny fish and one large fish each for their mid morning snack, and in the afternoon they were each thrown a boiled egg and a hollow toy filled with apple and minced meat… The sweetest animals …
