There were HUGE Waves at Hookipa yesterday, on Friday 13th – March 2009….   It was a great day to walk on the cliffs,  take photos of the scenery, wildlife and waves,  and enjoy the thunder of the breaking waves.

This Photo Gallery really can not do the size of the waves any justice! But I tried…  The wave faces were forecast to reach 20-25ft faces. I’m pretty certain they reached those sizes.  Helicopters flew over Hookipa and Jet skis passed by far out to sea on their way to check out if Jaws was breaking too .

While taking photos of the waves in the afternoon the waves just kept building, some of the sets were getting massive. The big waves and the high tide reached all the way to the back of Hookipa Beach, certain to cause some erosion.  You’ll see from the photos that the waves were almost all closing out and generating tons of white water, which made the photography lots of fun, but explains a certain lack of surfers and windsurfers out on there on  the ocean.  Although there was no sport action to watch yesterday, the waves more made up for it.

All photographs were taken by Anita Harris on Friday 13th (March 2009).. njoy.
